Does anyone have tips for me to using Photoshop?
I just bought CS4 and I have never used it before. What should I start doing first? Any tips?
Play around, download some brushes, and always try to do stuff. If you think "I could do that somehow" try it. Don't think "Ugh, it'd be too hard", just try it. You'll get used to the program, and you'll soon be able to do it.
There are also some great tutorials around the web. I personally use Planet Photoshop. http://www.planetphotoshop.com/
Good luck!

When you open it up, there should be a welcome screen with tutorial options. I highly recommend trying out a new tutorial every time you use it - they can be very helpful and informative, and help you to learn new things that you can do with the program.
It's definitely the best way to learn how to use it… or taking a class.
Good luck!

When I first started using photoshop, it was purely fooling about. You get frustrated at first, because everything seems like such a step up from paint that we're so used to doodling on. The best way to learn is by doing and CS4 is quite a powerful tool - I would suggest starting with something easy and fun.
For example, the healing brush tool.
The warp tool.
Rendering effects - lens flare, lighting etc.
Using the Filters for some really cool effects that don't require any other knowledge and then mixing them up to see what you come up with.
Later, when you get the hang of the features, there are hundreds of online tutorials available for free and you can learn how to use more advanced features like layers.
